PROVIDES A DOLLARS
SAVINGS POTENTIAL IN SWINE DIETS
Porcine meat and bone meal can
be a valuable addition in terms of both performance
and cost. Because of its' unique combination of nutrients
it can improve amino acid profiles, increase energy
levels and provide an alternative source of minerals.
When included in a least
cost formulation for pigs from 50 to 260 pounds, there
is a potential savings of around $2.38 per ton of complete
feed with current markets (6/9/06).
That number was obtained using
least-cost diets with a Hormel premix, dicalcium phosphate,
calcium carbonate, salt, corn, dehulled soybean meal,
55% porcine meat and bone meal and lysine. Meat and
bone meal was limited to a maximum of 5% of the total
diet. Such a diet will reduce the amount of dehulled
soybean meal, dicalcium phosphate and calcium carbonate
used. Lysine and energy levels were kept the same. Porcine
meat and bone meal was trading for $180 per ton picked
up at the plant (Austin, MN or Fremont, NE) on June
9, 2006 in semi-load lots.

DAIRY BEEF SUPPLEMENT
RBI Dairy Beef Supplement
is designed to primarily feed Holstein dairy steers
where an all grain or high grain, low forage diet is
fed. It is a pelleted supplement intended for use when
steers weigh about 400 pounds until market (1,350 pounds).
It is typically fed at the rate of 2 pounds per steer
per day and includes 200 grams of Monensin and 90 grams
of Tylosin per ton of supplement. Hormel does recommend
feeding 1 to 2 pounds of forage/roughage per day as
well with this high grain feeding program. The typical
nutrient analysis for RBI Dairy Beef Supplement is as
