BASEPAC®
Swine Base Mix 2000

Hormel BASEPAC Swine Base Mix 2000 is a product that the Hormel Feed Division has offered to swine producers for quite a few years now. It has been revised several times, as new nutritional information has become available, and continues to give outstanding production performance results. It does include phytase to help reduce excess nutrients being fed to pigs from either a cost or environmental standpoint. It also includes Porcine Meat & Bone Meal, which is an excellent source of phosphorus, and can alleviate the need for large amounts of dicalcium phosphate in the diet. With dicalcium phosphate supplies presently being tight, it can be a real advantage to have Meat & Bone Meal included in the diet.

Typical use levels range from 85 to 130 pounds per ton of complete swine feed. It can easily be used in either grow-finish or sow diets along with grain and soybean meal.

A typical profile for BASEPAC Swine Base Mix 2000 is as follows. The levels shown are equivalent values as phytase alters the amount of protein, amino acids, energy and minerals that are needed to meet the pigs' requirements.

Crude Protein 32.6 %
Lysine 2.11 %
Methionine 0.43 %
Crude Fat 6.1 %
Crude Fiber 3.5 %
Calcium 12.0 %
Phosphorus 5.65 %
Salt 6.7 %
Zinc 3,200 ppm
Vitamin A 52,500 IU/lb.
Vitamin D 12,750 IU/lb.
Vitamin E 245 IU/lb.
Met. Energy 1,024 kcal/lb.
Phytase
10,000 FTU/Kg

BASEPAC Swine Base Mix 2000 typically includes enough minerals so that grow-finish diets only need soybean meal and corn added to them to make complete feeds. Sow diets will require the addition of a sow mineral pack such as Hormel's Sow Add-Pak 50, which includes chromium. Grow-finish diets usually start out with about 120 pounds of BASEPAC Swine Base Mix 2000 (starting at 50 pounds body weight) and concluding around 85 pounds for pigs over 240 pounds. Sow diets usually include between 90 and 135 pounds per ton. Some producers also add a laxative to the mix for sows just prior to farrowing to 2 weeks after farrowing. Hormel has a Sow Pysllium Pac available for this purpose.

BASEPAC Swine Base Mix 2000 can be purchased in either bags or bulk, and in meal or pellets. Most producers usually find that the bulk and meal combination works well and is the most economical.

If you haven't used BASEPAC Swine Base Mix 2000, or it has been some time since you did, it might well be time to consider using this high quality product to help maximize performance levels. This is one product that has years of development and practical on farm use experience behind it.
